Mesmerized

Mesmerized

There was a time I was once in your place.

Was bruised and broken by the truths I couldn't face.

The narrow way my path of ascension,

But off the road a glimmer caught my attention.

I heard a cry, "Beware the mesmer!"

Already reaching out for treasure,

Like a moth, I'm drawn to my demise.

Flew down the road of good intention,

But all I saw was my reflection.

I went up against a mesmer and was mesmerized.

The curtains close. I'm trapped behind the stage

Near twisted sets and marionettes struck with age.

Masters of puppets, chaos is their art.

They seek to compromise, not heal, your broken heart.

They'll give you masks to join their masquerade.

They hand out sweetest poisons to help soothe your pain.

Their grand illusions take you for a fool.

Can't counter them with reason, they make up the rules.

The curtains rise for main attractions.

The smoke and mirrors are distractions.

Flashing lights will leave you hypnotized.

The bells and whistles call to action

The unaware overreactions.

Entertainers know their targets, don't be mesmerized.

Don't tempt the gamble, the buy-in is time.

Hourglass is running and you're still betting blind.

Lotus blossoms seducing you to stay.

You know the house always wins every time you play.

Hallucination, delusion, and mirage.

The trickster’s only aim is pain and sabotage.

Don't sell your soul, there's only hell to pay.

So cut your losses, fold your hand, and walk away.

Beware the masters of deception!

They only point to misdirection.

Stitch and sew reality to size.

Don’t touch the traps designed to hurt you.

Don’t trust the acts disguised as virtue.

When you're playing with a mesmer don't be mesmerized.

Beware the shadows. You have been advised.

By veiling claws and teeth, they'll make you sympathize

With wolfish smiles and tears you can't ignore.

You'll walk right past the shredded fleece across the floor.

Don't trust your eyes or dazzle of the flames.

Shut out the melody that softly sings your name.

Take off the masks they have laced with despair.

Beware the mesmer while you still have life to spare!

Take heed the cry, "Beware the mesmers!"

Escape the nets and snap the tethers!

See the mimics luring you with lies!

I say this all for your protection,

Beware the twisters of perception!

Wake the dreaming, don't be mesmerized!

I know the truth is hard to swallow.

It hurts, but don't you dare go hollow!

Break illusions! Shatter their disguise!

You hear the laughter turn to sorrow,

But you will thank me come tomorrow.

Heed my warning, save your life, and don't be mesmerized!
